Erbil Traffic Directorate said on Sunday, 8 February 2026, that it had observed some taxi drivers either not fitting illuminated taxi signs on their vehicles or placing them in different positions.
To standardise taxi signs, the directorate said the following rules now apply:
- The taxi sign must be fixed on the roof of the car, in line with the middle point between the driver's door and the rear door.
- It must contain a light bulb so it can be seen at night, and the bulb must be yellow; no other colour is permitted.
- Under no circumstances may the taxi sign be attached to the rear window, the windscreen or the boot.
