Corrections Policy
How we correct our mistakes openly and how readers can report an error to our newsroom.
Updated:
At Gökbörü Erbil Medya we see owning up to our mistakes as part of our responsibility to readers. When we find an error in published content, we correct it promptly, openly and without concealment.
No silent edits
Apart from minor fixes that do not change meaning, such as typos, every substantive change to a published story is shown on the article with a date and time. We use three kinds of notes:
- Correction: added when inaccurate information (a name, figure, date, quote or fact) has been fixed. The note explains what was wrong and what is correct.
- Update: used when new developments or additional information are added. The earlier information was not wrong, only incomplete.
- Clarification: added when wording that was not inaccurate, but could have been misunderstood, is made clearer.
Consistency across languages
When an error is found in one language version, we check the other versions too, and apply the correction to all of them with the same transparency.
How to report an error
If you believe one of our stories contains an error, please write to us with:
- The link or headline of the story
- The statement you believe is inaccurate
- If possible, a source supporting the correct information
Timelines
- Correction requests are reviewed by the duty editor within one working day at the latest.
- Once an error is confirmed, the correction is published without delay.
- For complex requests, we keep the person who contacted us informed of progress.
Removal requests
Our archive is part of the public record, so published stories are not normally removed. Exceptional cases, such as a legal obligation or a serious safety risk, are assessed separately by editorial management.
For our wider standards, see our Editorial Principles.
