Advertising Policy
How advertising and sponsored content are separated from journalism and labelled, and which advertising we do not accept.
Updated:
Advertising helps sustain independent journalism, but readers' trust comes before any commercial relationship. At Gökbörü Erbil Medya, advertising is governed by the following rules.
Advertising is clearly separated from news
- All advertising spaces on our site are visually distinct from editorial content and marked "Advertisement".
- Ads may not be designed in a way that could lead readers to mistake them for news or editorial content.
- Ad placements are not used in a way that prevents readers from reading a story.
Sponsored content
Content produced with the support or at the request of an advertiser is clearly labelled "Sponsored" at headline level in every language, together with the name of the sponsoring organisation. Sponsored content is presented so that it cannot be confused with newsroom journalism, and it is not written by our news reporters.
Editorial independence
- The advertising team and the newsroom operate independently of each other.
- Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over the subject, content or timing of our reporting.
- An organisation's advertising with us does not prevent us from reporting critically on it.
- We do not accept payment or favours in exchange for news coverage or editorial decisions.
Advertising we do not accept
We do not publish advertising or sponsored content in the following categories:
- Political campaign advertising by parties, candidates or campaigns
- Content promoting ethnic, religious or sectarian discrimination, hostility or hatred
- Sales of weapons, ammunition or explosives
- Illegal products and services, including illegal gambling
- Tobacco products and alcoholic beverages
- Misleading health claims and unproven treatments
- High-risk or misleading financial promises
- Adult content or content that could harm children
Gökbörü Erbil Medya reserves the right to decline any advertising it considers incompatible with its editorial principles, even if it is not listed above.
