Speaking about the attacks on Erbil, the Kurdistan Region prime minister said: “Some outlaw and terrorist groups have made Erbil their target. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to keep the people of Kurdistan safe and away from all war and turmoil.”
He called on the Iraqi government to “stop these terrorists” from targeting the Kurdistan Region again.
Barzani also spoke about salaries and electricity. He said the regional government is in contact with the federal government in Baghdad to resolve the salary issue and thanked people for their patience.
“We made serious efforts to provide 24-hour electricity to all of Kurdistan this year. We stand by that promise and will fulfil it,” he said.
However, he added: “After the war broke out and attacks were carried out on oil and gas fields, some companies reduced production as a precaution, which has reduced the electricity supply. This is temporary and we hope the situation returns to normal.”
The prime minister appealed to the public: “I hope people will be patient and understanding. What has happened was beyond our control, but we are doing everything possible to ensure the people of Kurdistan suffer the least harm.”
