Erbil Citadel Organisation: targeting Turkmen institutions is an attack on every Turkmen home

The Erbil Citadel Organisation said on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, that it condemns in the strongest terms the attack on the Turkmen Front building and the TEBA media organisation in Erbil. It described the attack as unacceptable, unrelated to peaceful expression or responsible political positions, and a dangerous attempt to sow discord among the components of Iraqi society.

The organisation stressed that those who carried out the attack do not represent the Kurdish people or reflect their values and history, but are merely a rogue, outlaw group seeking to exploit regional tensions to undermine stability and coexistence.

Targeting Turkmen institutions is an attack on every Turkmen home and on Turkmen dignity and their protected, legitimate right to political and media activity, it said, calling it condemnable conduct that must not pass without clear legal accountability.

The organisation said that, regrettably, the events Iraq is witnessing have less to do with the behaviour of any one party than with the absence of effective sovereign decision-making and overlapping responsibilities between the federal government and the regional administration, which allows forces of disorder to operate outside the law and exploit every gap in control and accountability.

It called on the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal action against those involved and to work seriously to protect institutions and communities, preserving internal peace and preventing a repeat of such attacks.

At around 12:30 am on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, a masked group of four people attacked the TEBA Media Group building and wrote a number of threats on its walls.
