Kirkuk Provincial Council member Sawsan Abdulwahid Jaddo congratulated the journalism and media community on the 115th anniversary of the Turkmen press in Iraq, which began with the first Turkmen newspaper, Havadis (Al-Hawadith), published in Kirkuk on 25 February 1911.
She stressed that the Turkmen press has always been, and will remain, the voice of truth, a weapon of thought and a platform for our people's just cause. She praised its central role in reporting events with honesty and responsibility and in carrying the torch of enlightenment in the most difficult circumstances, and highlighted its commitment to professional values and objectivity, which has made it an important tool in building social awareness and raising cultural and political understanding within the Turkmen community.
Jaddo also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Turkmen journalists who defended their identity and their national and constitutional rights and who contributed effectively to strengthening community ties, helping to consolidate culture and political awareness. She concluded that the Turkmen press is an inseparable part of our people's continuing struggle for justice and dignity and deserves every support and appreciation for its valuable contribution to the progress of the Turkmen nation.
