Drone attacks pose a real, serious and targeted threat to the Kurdistan Region, especially as they are aimed at airports and oil fields.
According to a statement from Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism: “At 1:27 am on Thursday, 17 July 2025, an explosive-laden drone crashed near the village of Jejnikan in Bahirka district, Erbil province. Fortunately, there were no casualties or material damage.”
While the Kurdistan Regional Government continues to call on the Iraqi government to act to stop the attacks, the United States has also said through its embassy in Iraq and the State Department that it will not accept continued attacks and that they must stop immediately.
