Gulsel Mohammed appointed rapporteur of Iraq's Council of Representatives

Gulsel Mohammed has been appointed rapporteur of Iraq's Council of Representatives. “I reaffirm my commitment to defending the rights and legitimate entitlements of the Turkmen community with the utmost integrity and responsibility,” she said.

On Monday, 5 January 2026, following official approval of her appointment, the MP expressed sincere thanks to the presidency of the Council of Representatives for its confidence and to Turkmen MPs for their support.

She reaffirmed her commitment to keep working diligently to serve the people of Iraq as a whole and to defend the rights and legitimate entitlements of the Turkmen community with the utmost integrity and responsibility.

Duties of the rapporteur of the Council of Representatives:

Recording minutes: recording everything said in sessions and preparing the official minutes.

Managing votes: overseeing voting on legislation and counting votes accurately.

Preparing the agenda: assisting the presidency of parliament in organising the schedule of sessions.

Recording absences: noting MPs who are absent from or late to sessions.

Reading reports: reading the texts of laws or reports that must be presented during sessions.

Keeping records: overseeing all official documents and correspondence issued within parliament.
